- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Stir everything well and reduce the heat to low; let it simmer for 20-30 minutes.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary.
- Stir in the fresh basil just before serving.
- Serve the marinara warm or cool it down for storage.
